Mums and mums-to-be.

There are two articles on-line at the moment of interest to parents.

Go to www.cuidiucork.net to the Irish Childbirth Society’s newsletter Spring 2013 edition to read Veronique Druesne’s account of how the Alexander Technique helped her with postural pains and RSI on page nine. Entitled ‘Why I Love Alexander Technique’,  she says she benefited so much she went on to train as an Alexander Teacher. Now living and working in Cork and with a four year old son, Alex whom you can see in the photo.

Like Veronique I, too trained as an Alexander Teacher before becoming pregnant. I’m glad it was that way round as it helped me through the whole process, starting with difficult consultants, coping with the physical changes and the actual delivery.

There’s also an article by Brita Forsstrom, written for the magazine, ‘ThinkBaby’ with the title ‘Encouraging good body use in your baby’. I remember being given much advice on how to hold my baby and how to make him walk. This article points out that it’s a good idea to let a baby crawl and develop at their own individual pace. It also contains some pointers for mums.

I enjoyed watching my son make his way through all the developmental steps, knowing that letting him learn how to roll and crawl and walk unaided was helping his brain develope properly and was the basis for good co-ordination later on.
